Lake Forest, a city in Orange County, California is a city that gets its name from the two lakes that can be found in the area. These lakes are both man-made and the shores are lined with various custom homes that vary in terms of size. This “forest” is mostly consisted of Eucalyptus trees and was started in the early 1900’s by a local landowner, Dwight Whiting. He was able to plant 400 acres of Eucalyptus groves right in the vicinity of Serrano Creek as a part of a lumber operation. When the 1960’s came around, a company called the Occidental Petroleum developed residential communities in and around these Eucalyptus groves. Today, the groves have expanded so much and grew even denser that it began to mimic the appearance of a small forest within the city itself.
